A buyer’s guide to passive parcel shippers, pallet shippers and custom VIP packaging.

Choosing a pharmaceutical cold chain packaging supplier starts with the shipment: which product, temperature limits, payload, duration and transport environment must the packaging accommodate? Establish whether you need an existing shipping system, a reusable service program or a manufacturing partner for a custom design.

This guide introduces eight suppliers with official product information relevant to temperature-controlled pharmaceutical transport. The focus is passive parcel packaging, pallet-scale systems and VIP-based packaging, not a comparison of airlines, freight forwarders or active refrigeration equipment. Sources reviewed: September 20, 2026.

Editorial disclosure: Published by Supertech, one of the suppliers included. Companies appear alphabetically, not ranked by market share, quality or price. Descriptions summarize official materials, not independent product tests. This is a starting point for research, not an exhaustive directory.

CSafe

CSafe separates parcel solutions from its wider air-cargo portfolio. Its parcel range includes single-use and multi-use products, while Silverpod addresses passive pallet shipments. For this shortlist, compare these passive formats rather than carrying specifications over from an active air-cargo container.

Peli BioThermal

Peli BioThermal distinguishes parcel from bulk packaging and single-use from reusable formats. CoolGuard serves single-use parcel shipments, CoolPall covers single-use bulk packaging, and Crēdo includes reusable parcel and bulk products. These distinctions help frame the recovery and handling requirements.

Sofrigam

Sofrigam describes standard and customized pharmaceutical packaging supported by design, manufacturing and qualification services. Its published ranges include ELITE CUBIC shipping boxes and INITIAL pallet formats. The distinction between loading cartons and accepting a loaded pallet is useful when specifying a bulk system.

Supertech

VIP-based cold chain packaging for OEM/ODM projects

Supertech supplies individual VIPs and finished insulated containers. The manufacturing group, Fujian Super Tech Advanced Material Co., Ltd., publishes in-house core, barrier-film, getter and panel capabilities. Its OEM/ODM scope allows buyers to discuss the insulation configuration as well as the finished enclosure.

Official sources: About Supertech · VIP product families

The EV series combines a protective expanded polypropylene (EPP) outer box with VIP insulation. The pallet range includes detachable, fixed and one-way constructions. These are distinct starting points for parcel and bulk projects, with loading dimensions and handling requirements to be checked for the chosen configuration.

This component-to-container scope is useful when a packaging integrator wants to develop its own system, rather than only purchase a finished branded shipper. A project can start with panel selection, then address enclosure geometry, usable payload space and manufacturing requirements. The group’s sales business is operated by Xiamen Supertech Energy Conservation Technology Co., Ltd..

For pharmaceutical use, agree whether the delivery scope includes only insulation or a container, or also a complete tested pack-out. Suitability depends on the payload, refrigerants, conditioning and transport profile; VIP insulation alone does not establish pharmaceutical qualification.

Before sourcing: Do you need VIP components, a finished container or a qualified complete pack-out? Agree the payload, coolant layout, preparation and testing scope.

ThermoSafe

ThermoSafe offers parcel and pallet packaging with design and thermal-testing services. Its Orion rental program includes preparation, delivery, retrieval and refurbishment of reusable boxes. Buyers can therefore assess the packaging specification and the service agreement as separate parts of one proposal.

How to compare supplier proposals

Start with the shipment

Provide the permitted payload temperature range, minimum and maximum load, packed dimensions, transit time, expected delays and seasonal ambient conditions. Distinguish internal product limits from the external temperatures the box will experience. Note freezing sensitivity where relevant.

Compare usable loading space

Request a drawing with refrigerants, dividers, sensors and protective packaging installed. Empty inner volume and a nominal litre rating are not the same as usable payload space. For pallet formats, also confirm loaded weight, door clearance, fork access and actual pallet compatibility.

Read the evidence behind duration

Request the exact pack-out, coolant type and quantity, conditioning procedure, payload or simulant, temperature profile, sensor positions and acceptance limits. A longer advertised holding time is not necessarily better performance when the test conditions differ.

Assign operational responsibilities

Specify who conditions refrigerants, assembles the box, provides monitoring, manages returns and inspects packaging before reuse. For custom development, identify who approves the design and owns the qualification work. Confirm regional availability and commercial terms directly.

Calculate cost per shipment

Include preparation labour, refrigerants, freight, storage, monitoring and, where relevant, return transport, cleaning and replacement parts. For reusable packaging, use realistic recovery rates and serviceable trips, not a theoretical maximum reuse count.

ISTA describes 7D as a temperature-exposure development test; 7E provides thermal profiles for parcel-delivery shipments. Select a justified test approach for the intended distribution process rather than treating all profiles as interchangeable. A test designation alone is not an approval for every pharmaceutical shipment. ISTA thermal test scope.

Where VIP-based packaging fits

VIPs reduce heat transfer; phase change materials store and release thermal energy. They perform different roles. Lid joints, panel edges, coolant layout, payload and preparation still affect the complete shipper. A panel’s conductivity cannot establish a box’s holding time.

VIP-based packaging is not exclusive to one supplier: the EcoFlex Extended and ORCA sources above both describe VIP and PCM constructions. Compare the actual pack-out and operating process, not simply whether “VIP” appears in the product name.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ranking of the top eight pharmaceutical packaging suppliers?

No. This is an alphabetical selection based on official product information. A supplier should be assessed against the particular payload, route, operating model and evidence required by the buyer.

What should I ask about a pre-qualified shipper?

Request the configuration and report behind that description: payload, refrigerants, preparation, temperature profile and acceptance criteria. Check whether those documented conditions fit the intended shipment; the label is not unrestricted approval for any pharmaceutical product or route.

Are all vacuum-insulated cooler boxes suitable for pharmaceuticals?

No. Insulation material alone does not determine suitability. Check the intended application and evidence for the complete pack-out. A portable food or outdoor cooler is not automatically a qualified pharmaceutical shipping system.

Can Supertech supply VIP components instead of complete shipping boxes?

Yes. The published range includes individual VIPs and insulated containers. OEM/ODM buyers can discuss component supply or finished-container requirements, with dimensions, configuration and testing scope agreed for the project.

Build a shortlist around the same project brief

Send each candidate the same technical and commercial inputs. Compare the proposed configuration, supporting documents and operating responsibilities before choosing a supplier. The objective is a documented fit for your shipment, not a universal “best supplier.”

Discuss a custom VIP packaging project

Share the packed payload dimensions and mass, required temperature range, journey duration, ambient profile, quantity and destination. State whether packaging will return and which test protocol or qualification deliverables are required.
